The purpose of this qualification is to develop the transferable skills and behaviours needed for learners to progress to further study and employment.

At this level, learners will complete tasks fully under supervision, direction or with guidance.

The development of English and maths skills is essential in the business world and on completion of this course, learners will have developed a range of transferable and business sector skills that will benefit them regardless of their chosen progression route.

These skills include: communication, teamworking, problem-solving, managing information, self-management and personal development.

BTEC courses motivate learners and open doors to progression to further study and responsibility in the workplace.

Course components

BTEC Level 1 Business Diploma students will study the following:

  • Finding out about businesses in your area
  • Working with others
  • Researching a topic
  • Presenting a business idea
  • Branding a product
  • Recording income and expenditure+
  • Contribute to running an event
  • Being organised
  • Communicating with customers
  • Developing a personal progression plan

Trips

We also arrange day trips as part of the curriculum such as to the Harry Potter Studios to see how films are marketed, the Bank of England, and we also arrange for guest speakers to talk on campus.

How is the course taught?

You will be taught in fully equipped classrooms using a range of teaching materials and techniques.

What support is available?

Our qualified tutors will support and guide you in the classrooms and through tutorials as they help you to develop the skills and techniques required in industry. Learning Support is also available for those with learning difficulties/disabilities; please let us know on application if you require this service. What social activities can I take part in?

We offer a programme of social and sports activities to all our students; full information is available from the Student Room at your centre of study. Student rooms are available for those who want to play games, meet up with friends or just chill.

What facilities and resources are available?

A range of hot and cold refreshments are available to purchase in the canteen and café facilities, as well as vending machines. Halal meat and washing facilities are available at both centres. We have Quiet Rooms for those preferring to reflect. Libraries are available at both centres, fully equipped with a wide range of learning materials and qualified friendly staff on hand to support you.

What else should I know?

Assessment is designed to fit the purpose and objective of the qualification and all units are internally assessed – giving learners the opportunity to demonstrate skills developed in applied scenarios. There is a range of assessment styles suited to skills and sector-based qualifications at this level. All units are graded from Pass to Distinction to encourage skills development and performance.

Learners are assessed using a variety of styles to help them develop a broad range of transferable skills so you will not be limited to writing essays.
