Last week saw students from the College of North West London’s Engineering, Construction and the Built Environment (ECBE) department participate in this year’s skills competition day.
The event was hosted in the college’s Telford building, a six storey, purpose-built environment that provides workshop and practical build space for the trades, as well as housing the college’s Green Skills centre which provides upskilling on new green technologies.
Throughout the day, students and apprentices competed in tasks set in carpentry & joinery, bricklaying, plastering, dry-lining, refrigeration & air conditioning, plumbing, electrical and multi-skills disciplines.
A number of the college’s employer partners supported the event, and participated in the judging, including the British Association of Construction Heads, Durkan, Refina, Ox Tools, and Dovetail and Slate.
Many of the competition winners will be put forward to represent the college in their respective fields at the World Skills competition taking place towards the end of the year.
Lee Boresta, Assistant Principal - Engineering, Construction and the Built Environment said: “I’m extremely proud of the skills displayed and the efforts put into the day from our students and my teams. The level professionalism, standards and enthusiasm was so high. Students certainly demonstrated their willingness and determination to progress into employment in the sector.
We created a great “have a go” area and allowed school visitors to try out new and Green Technologies as well as talk with Industry guests and our students about their experience and Industry IAG. I extend a big thank you to our students, staff and sponsors for making the day a success.”
Congratulations to all who took part in the competition.
