This week saw three College of North West London students compete in the National Qualifiers for SkillWeld, part of the World Skills Competition.
Welding & Fabrication students Joseph Cairns, Oliver Dash and Nathan Milner all passed the first stage of the competition and got to compete in the National Qualifier for London and the South-East which was held at Crawley College.
For this stage, competitors had to demonstrate four high difficulty welds under timed conditions, with unfamiliar equipment. All learners adapted phenomenally and completed welds with carbon steel, stainless steel and aluminium using three different welding processes.
“We are proud of all of our students who qualified for the SkillWeld Competition, each one of them has shown a passion and dedication to compete alongside their studies. This competition has allowed them to test their practical ability and skills to the limit with a timed challenge involving multiple welding processes, positions and materials. The learners have represented their college admirably by building professional relationships with other colleges and their students which has highlighted their development and determination. Competitions such as WorldSkills challenges the learners providing up skilling and inspires students to push their skills to the next level.” - Tom McCarthy, Welding & Fabrication Lecturer
