College Hosts Plumbing Competition with SoPHE

The College of North West London joined together with the Society of Public Health Engineers (SoPHE) to facilitate a new plumbing competition which took place on 10 June 2022 at the college’s campus in Willesden.

Designed in partnership with the SoPHE industry working group, which includes manufacturers and suppliers. The competition is designed to help students to build on their knowledge and bridge the gap between domestic and commercial installations.

Students were invited to demonstrate their skills in plumbing problem solving, hand skills, and practical fault finding in plumbing installations as they competed. The results being evaluated by a judging panel comprised of the SoPHE Industry Working Group (IWG) including manufacturers, plumbing suppliers, company representatives and the Young Engineer of the Year 2021.

Level 2 winners

  • 1st place - Khennaf Souraya - Level 1 Certificate in Construction Skills
  • 2nd Place - Vineet Bava - Level 2 Plumbing Studies
  • 3rd place - Darren Dias - Level 2 Plumbing Studies

Level 1 winners

  • 1st place - Haidar Mannaa - Level 2 Plumbing Studies
  • 2nd place - Kevin Almeida - Level 2 Plumbing Studies
  • 3rd place - Basit Lawal - Level 2 Plumbing Studies

The feedback from participants was very good with manufacturers, suppliers and participating students commending the college for their organisation and the challenging aspect of activities. The college and the whole United Colleges Group are proud to have hosted this competition and thanks its partners at SoPHE for their work in making it possible. Plans are already underway for next year’s event.
