Details

This course is designed to help native English language speakers, or people who have lived in the UK for 8 years or more and have a good command of the English language, to improve their skills in reading and writing. Our Functional Skills courses are delivered at Entry 2, Entry 3, Level 1 and Level 2 on an 18 or 36 week basis. Courses are typically taught for 3 hours on one day per week. At the interview stage of the application process you will be assessed to see which level is best suited to your needs.

You will develop your verbal communication, reading and writing skills for everyday life, work and study.

How is the course taught?

You will do individual, group and pair work in class to improve your English skills. You will also have the opportunity to use computers to help improve your English reading and writing skills. You will also have regular group / 1:1 tutorials during your course to review your progress towards the exams.

What support is available?

Our qualified tutors will support and guide you. Learning Support is also available for those with learning difficulties/disabilities; please let us know on application if you require this service. If you need help or advice on other matters such as welfare and finance, please contact our Course Information Centres at Willesden or Wembley Park.

What social activities can I take part in?

We offer a programme of social and sports activities to all our students; full information is available from the Student Room at your centre of study. Student rooms are available for those who want to play games, meet up with friends or just chill.

What facilities and resources are available?

A range of snacks, hot and cold foods are available to purchase in the canteen and café facilities, as well as vending machines. Halal meat and washing facilities are available at both centres. We have Quiet Rooms for those preferring to reflect. LRCs (libraries) are available at both centres, fully equipped with a wide range of learning materials and qualified friendly staff on hand to support you.
