Financial Support for 16-19yrs, Continuing Learners aged 19 & under 25s with EHC Plan

The information below applies to:

  • Learners aged 16-18
  • Learners aged 16-24 with an LDA or EHCP
  • Learners aged 19+ continuing into the second year of a Level 3 course started at age 18

All bursary funds are awarded based on an assessment of individual financial need and circumstances.

16-18 Bursary (towards lunch/travel/materials/books/childcare costs)

16-19 bursary provides financial support towards course associated cost of materials lunch, travel (subject to distance), equipment, books (where the option to loan the book from the library is not available) or childcare.

16-19 Enhanced Bursary Fund

You may be entitled to Enhanced Bursary Support of up to £1,200.

To be eligible for this bursary support, students must meet one or more of the following criteria:

  • Currently in care
  • Care leavers
  • Receiving Income Support (IS) or Universal Credit (UC) because they are financially supporting themselves, or financially supporting themselves and a dependent who is living with them, such as a child or partner
  • Receiving Disability Living Allowance (DLA) or Personal Independence Payments (PIP) in their own right, as well as Employment and Support Allowance (ESA) or UC in their own right

Applying for Bursary funds checklist

Students must complete an application on the Pay My Student portal and provide all supporting evidence.

Supporting Documents:
  1. Evidence of the student’s current residency (e.g., passport, British passport, biometric card, Home Office documents, travel document)
  2. Evidence that your parent/carer is in receipt of a Tax Credit Award Notice or Child Benefit, plus one of the following:
  • Support letter from the DWP
  • Income-based JSA
  • Income-based ESA
  • Support under Part IV of the Immigration & Asylum Act
  • Universal Credit
  • Guarantee element of State Pension Credit
  • Working/Child Tax Credit (all pages)
  • Recent payslips (last 2 months) or a tax return/accountant’s letter will only be required to evidence household gross annual income.
